Configure your org structure to enable team-based features

Setting up managerial reporting lines tells Zal.ai who reports to whom in your organization. This drives key features like My Team's Profiles, My Team's Goals, and My Team's Appraisals—allowing managers to view and manage their direct reports.

How to Set a User's Manager

  1. From the left navigation, click Settings.
  2. Select Users.
  3. Click on the employee's name to open their profile.
  4. In the Manager field, search for and select their manager.
  5. Changes are saved automatically.
Note: The person you're assigning as a manager must have the Manager role enabled. If they don't appear in the dropdown, first update their role to Manager.

What Reporting Lines Enable

Once reporting lines are configured:

  • Managers see: Their direct reports in My Team's Profiles, My Team's Goals, My Team's Appraisals, and My Team's Feedback
  • Employees see: Their manager listed on their profile
  • Performance reviews: Managers are automatically assigned to write appraisals for their direct reports
  • Goals: Managers can approve goals submitted by their direct reports

How to Update Reporting Lines via CSV Import

For bulk updates, you can import a CSV file with manager assignments:

  1. Go to SettingsUsers.
  2. Click Export to download current user data.
  3. Update the manager column in the CSV.
  4. Click Import and upload the updated file.
