Edit and Submit an AI-Generated Manager Review Draft

Review and finalize AI-generated appraisals for your direct reports

In this article, you'll learn how to review, edit, and submit the AI-generated performance appraisal draft for your direct reports. AI-generated drafts are created using data sources collected throughout the review period.

Access & Complete a Performance Appraisal

Once self and peer reviews have been submitted, Zal will generate a performance appraisal draft for you to review and edit. The draft is AI-generated and built from performance data captured over the review period, including submitted reviews, goals, feedback, and meeting notes.

  1. You'll receive both an email and inbox notification when a Performance Appraisal draft is ready for your review. Click the link in the notification to access the draft.

  2. You're now in the employee's Performance Appraisal. Use the Sections & Progress panel on the left to navigate between sections, and the Instructions & Criteria tab on the right for guidance on what each section should include.

  3. Edit the AI-generated text directly in each section to accurately reflect the employee's performance. If a section includes a rating, click it to select a new answer.

  4. As you make edits to the review, you can use the Data Sources tab to see all data sources (e.g., submitted reviews and uploaded files). Click on a data source to view it in its entirety. You can also upload additional data sources by clicking + Add Entry

  5. To see what data the AI drew from when generating a specific section, open the Supporting Evidence tab.

  6. When you're happy with a section, click the checkmark icon to its right to mark it as complete. Repeat for each section.
  7. Once all sections are complete and approved, click Submit Review.

  8. A confirmation pop-up will appear. Confirm OK to submit.

  9. Upon submission, the appraisal will be sent to HR for review and approval.

     

NOTE 📝: If a late review is submitted or a new data source is added after the initial draft is generated, a Regenerate button will appear at the top of each review section. To incorporate the new data source in a review section, click that button. Please note that regenerating a section will cause any edits you've already made to be overwritten. Save any text you want to keep outside of Zal before regenerating, then add it back once the new draft is ready.


Edit a Submitted Appraisal

If you need to make changes after submitting, you can withdraw the appraisal, make your edits, and resubmit to HR.

  1. Open the performance appraisal using the link included in the email or inbox notification. Alternatively, you can navigate to Reviews > My Team's Appraisals and access it from there.

  2. Click Withdraw Review.
  3. Make your edits and re-confirm each section using the checkmark icon.
  4. Click Submit Review to resubmit to HR.
