Create and Launch a Review Cycle

Set up a new performance appraisal cycle for your organization

This article walks you through creating and launching a performance review cycle in Zal.ai. As an admin, you'll configure the review dates, add participants, set up the appraisal template, and enable data collection surveys.

How to Create a New Review Cycle

  1. From the left navigation, click Reviews.
  2. Select Review Cycles.
  3. Click Add New Review.
  4. Select Performance Appraisal as the review type.
  5. Set the review period start and end dates.
  6. Click Start to create the cycle.

How to Configure the Review Cycle

After creating the cycle, configure each tab:

Planning Tab

  • Set key dates for each phase (nomination period, self assessment deadline, manager submission deadline, etc.)
  • Configure email notification schedules

Participants Tab

  1. Click Add Employee.
  2. Select employees to include in the review cycle.
  3. Click Add to confirm.

Report Tab

  • Configure the appraisal template sections (e.g., Strengths, Areas for Growth, Overall Rating)
  • Set criteria and AI prompts for each section
  • Assign grading scales if applicable

Surveys Tab

  • Enable self assessments, peer reviews, upward reviews, or other surveys
  • Configure reminder email frequency

Settings Tab

  1. Toggle on Active to launch the review cycle.
  2. Participants will start receiving notifications based on your planning schedule.
Tip: You can import a review template from a previous cycle using the Import button on the Report tab.
