Admin Configuration Overview
Your guide to configuring Zal.ai as an admin
As an admin, you're responsible for configuring Zal.ai to match your organization's structure and processes. This article provides an overview of key configuration areas.

Accessing Settings
Click the Settings gear icon at the bottom of the navigation bar to access configuration options.
Key Configuration Areas
Users
Manage your employee roster. Add users individually or via CSV import, update roles and departments, set reporting lines, and deactivate users who leave.
Departments
Create and manage departments. Departments are required for survey anonymity (the 5+ response threshold applies per department).
Roles
Assign users to Employee, Manager, HR, or Admin roles. Roles determine what each person can see and do in the platform.
Reporting Lines
Set who reports to whom. This drives "My Team's" views for managers and determines who writes each employee's performance review.
Grading Scales
Create the rating system managers use when evaluating performance (e.g., "Below Expectations" through "Exceeds Expectations").
Meeting Types
Create meeting templates with structured agendas for different conversation types like 1:1s, team meetings, or performance review discussions.
Before Launching a Review Cycle
We recommend completing four tasks before your review cycle launches:
- Confirm employee data (departments, roles, managers)
- Assign admin permissions
- Create a grading scale
- Set up a meeting type for review conversations
